Lockheed Martin Invests $20,000 in STEM Education for Seminole County Students

The Foundation for Seminole County Public Schools is proud to announce a generous $20,000 grant from Lockheed Martin to support innovative STEM initiatives across the district. This investment will provide middle and high school students with opportunities to engage in hands-on STEM learning, inspiring them to pursue further education and careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Lockheed Martin’s grant will support three impactful programs:

AgriScience Program at Lawton Chiles Middle School
This program allows students to explore water quality, sustainability, and weather station equipment, while introducing them to agrotechnology tools such as drones, AI technology, and model/simulation development. These experiences provide foundational skills to encourage students to pursue higher-level sciences in high school. The funding will be used to purchase materials, supplies, industry-standard technology and equipment, and provide student field trip learning opportunities.

Computer Science Program at Lyman High School
Through Lyman’s Academy of Engineering, students gain exposure to computational thinking concepts and tools, building confidence in advanced computer science principles such as coding and simulation—critical skills in the engineering pathway. Funds will be used to purchase four advanced computers and additional equipment required for game design and simulation projects.

District-wide Middle School “Science Unleashed” Experience
This exciting initiative will engage middle school students and their families in hands-on STEM activities beyond the classroom to improve science performance and foster a love of learning. Hosted at the Orlando Science Center, students and families will participate in immersive STEM experiences, and each family will receive a STEM take-home kit to continue learning together. Funding will cover the experience’s costs, including the Orlando Science Center rental, STEM kits, and transportation from all 12 middle schools, ensuring equitable access for students, especially those in higher-need schools.

Thank you Lockheed Martin for supporting these programs, ensuring students build strong STEM foundations that will guide them into future college and career pathways.
